To all the Kings Review | Raw Vision magazine
Carl Freedman presented Jennifer Lauren Gallery with To all the Kings who have no Crowns, showcasing seventeen international, distinct contemporary practices, revealing a diverse collection of art forms including drawing, painting, ceramics, embroidery and found object sculptures. The artwork exhibited, whilst appearing highly individual upon first viewing, had many similarities in the way it was produced. Each artist revels in the creative mark making process and, whilst the finished product is important, it is the act of creation itself and being given a voice, that many of the artists value most.
Lisa Slominski reviews To all the Kings in Raw Vision magazine issue #110, stating, ”This multi-media exhibition - including the petite sculptures by Pradeep Kumar and the nearly 300 cm pastel drawing by Eric Derochette - considers a conceptual connection through exploring process and production.” Of Nnena Kalu’s work in the final room she also says, “Accompanied by a short video demonstrating Kalu's hypnotic drawing process, this installation thematically forms an apt closing punctuation for "Kings”; emblematic of exploring mark-making as a concept and the act of production as performative.”
