Evelyne Postic
Evelyne Postic was born 1951 in Lyon and is a self-taught artist. Her first passion was dancing but she had to renounce it at an early age, as she suffered from a grave pulmonary disease from the age of five. Her parents separated and she was placed in various boarding schools, which led her to feeling abandoned. She then led an unhappy life being raised by her mother and grandparents. The only way she could escape was by using paper and coloured pencils on the kitchen table, from which she could see a dry cleaners across the street, periodically releasing multi-coloured water into the gutter. She contemplated applying to a Fine Arts School, but her mother was against it.
After her divorce, Postic settled in Grenoble with her three children. As a means to escape a dreary life, she invented a parallel universe: she started to paint and draw imaginary shapes, mixing human, vegetal, and animal elements. Her work addresses the notion of living beings’ adaptation to their environment, and the evolution of species that have to transform in order to survive.
The infinite variety of marine, terrestrial, and invisible worlds is fascinating to her. Like a river overflowing its dams, she creates every evening incessantly; during the day she works odd jobs in order to make ends meet. Biology and sciences are one of her passions.
