ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
The Modest Genius was an exhibition about raw art. For its eighth edition, it was at the Centre Abbé Pierre - Emmaus d'Esteville in Normandy, from 1 May - 31 October 2021. Each year, the exhibition curator of Halle Saint Pierre (Paris) highlights artists and works that illustrate the spirit of the place: to show that people can create great things despite and with their own weaknesses and using simple and accessible means. The exhibition was set in line with Jean Dubuffet's ideas, the inventor and discoverer of art brut, and presents original, singular and self-taught creators. Consistent with the simplicity advocated by Father Pierre, the Modest Genius testifies that the modest person can be a genius, both in Emmaus and in art. Artists on display: François Jauvion, Mr Djub, Louis Pons, Shinichi Sawada and Laurent Védrine.
