'Autobiographic' Review | Raw Vision Magazine

Installation of ‘Autobiographic’, 2020

The Gallery of Everything in London presented AUTOBIOGRAPHIC in early 2020: an examination into the image/text diary aesthetic of two key art makers from the non-academic. It featured works by the Italian autodidact Carlo Zinelli, and British artist Valerie Potter, who is represented by the Jennifer Lauren Gallery. Valerie’s work featured a retrospective of over 40 years of her textile and embroidery work, in both colour and monochrome. Artist Judith McNicol reviewed Valerie’s work in issue #105 of Raw Vision Magazine, in Spring 2020.

Judith said, “To me, Potter’s remarkable embroideries are brave, dramatic and compelling, revealing both harshness in her imagery and tenderness in her craft. The strength of her work evokes self-empowerment and belief in her own distinctive and deeply affecting voice, as she fully engages with her own ‘dark materials.’”
